The Montessori Knobbed Cylinders are  designed to assist children in making distinctions in their immediate environment. This material primarily engages the senses of touch and sight.

Purpose:

Sensorial includes materials that help kids take shape, sound, structure, look, and colour. They have materials , e.g., cylinder blocks, which include 10 cylinders with knobs, each chamber fitting into its individual mouth. Kids take these cylinders out and get to work out how to move them back where they belong. This process indirectly teaches children how to take the figure, problem solve, and persevere to achieve goals. Text and Language play a major part in the Montessori preschool. Rather than writing letters, kids examine their fingers at sandpaper texts to look how each is shaped. Instead of narrating the alphabet, they see the sounds each text does. With this way, some Montessori kids make kindergarten proficient readers. Dr. Montessori planned sensorial materials for the purpose of producing the person's five senses. These materials include the cylinder blocks, the pink tower, the brown stairs, the coloured poles, these colored cylinders and more. Also there is a host of different materials used for the education and discovery actions of older kids. High school teachers are normally required to produce their own materials.

Set #1-Increases in height and diameter.
Set #2-Increases in diameter but the height remains constant.
Set #3-increases in diameter and decreases in height.
Set #4-increases in height and the diameter remains constant.

Block 1: The cylinders vary in two dimensions: The diameter increases from 1cm to 5.5cm
The height remains constant at 5.5cm
Block 2: The cylinders vary in three dimensions: The diameter increases from 1cm, to 5.5cm
The height increases from 1cm to 5.5cm

Block 3: The cylinders vary in three dimensions: The diameter increases from 1cm to 5.5cm
The height decreases from 1cm to 5.5cm
Block 4: The cylinders vary in one dimension: The diameter remains the same.

The height increases from 1cm to 5.5cm
